This item is a set of 2 knives that I forged from the same same San maï billet.
Petty 170x35mm, San maï hand forged from 135Cr3 Core and Pure iron clad in Sheffield.
Kurouchi finish with flat grind. Double bevel

Distal taper from 3.40mm to 2.20mm to 0.75mm (Emoto - mid blade - 1 cm from the tip)
Wa handle made from ebonised english oak, 140mm length.

Distal taper from 5.00mm to 4.00mm to 1.15mm (Emoto - mid blade - 1 cm from the tip)
Wa handle made from ebonised english oak, 120mm length.
Iron staining, or ebonizing, generally uses a reaction between iron oxide and the natural tannins in wood to create a natural-looking black that is actually created in the fibers of the wood rather than a stain sitting on top. This is why it is so durable. It is integral, not superficial. I have also found it to be very light-catching.
